Howard and Ruth were married at the home of her parent's, Mrs. & Mrs. Harry Nutter, by Rev. F.C. Savage on November 6, 1943, while Howard was serving in the U.S. Army. When they wed they had no wedding cake, so when the couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, their daughter Joyce Dost made sure that one was served. A Howard County native, Howard was a second-generation county law enforcement officer, retiring from the Kokomo police force after 20 years, and later working as a probation officer. Ruth retired from Accurate Parts. They have 2 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
