Long Term Lovers of Howard County

Dale and Althea (Kinney) Etherington : 50+ Years
Married June 3rd, 1951

Dale and Althea were high school classmates graduating from Western High School in 1949. They were both nineteen when they married in a double-ring ceremony at the West Middleton Methodist Church on June 3, 1951. The Rev. Lowell Townsend officiated at the ceremony, and Althea’s sister, Amy Geary, was her matron of honor. A couple of years after they married, Dale served 2 years in the military. He retired from Chrysler and now works as a school bus driver for Western Schools. Althea worked for Syndicate Sales for two years and is a homemaker. They have 2 daughters: Dawn (Mrs. Charlie) Briar, of Russiaville, and Sheila (Mrs. Bruce) Taflinger, of Kokomo, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Dale’s parents and paternal grandparents were also married more than 50 years.
