Jack and Joan were married in St. Patrick's Rectory on July 23, 1943. It was a Friday evening, and Jack had to leave the following morning for his air base at Rome, New York. Joan was to follow later, but by the time she got to Rome, Jack was restricted to base. He was sent overseas with the 8th Air Force and it was 2 ½ years before he saw his wife again. Jack figures this was one reason they stayed together for so long: they didn't want to lose any more time! Jack and Joan are the progenitors of a large family, as can be seen in the family photo taken for their 50th anniversary.
