Long Term Lovers of Howard County

Harry W. and Joan (Haywood) Wray : 50+ Years
Married March 8th, 1951

Harry and Joan were supposed to be getting married at the Church of the Brethren in Kokomo, and all their plans were laid, when Harry's anticipated furlough was cancelled. Rather than wait, Joan decided to fly down to Ft. Bliss, Texas. She was not willing to entrust her wedding dress to the airline baggage personnel, so carried it on her lap in the plane all the way from Indianapolis to El Paso. Harry was still not allowed off base, so they tied the knot in the post chapel on March 8, 1951. Since Uncle Sam disposed of Harry's time, they took their honeymoon trip a year later, traveling to Acapulco and Mexico City. They both operated the Wray of Sunshine Kindergarten in Alto for eighteen years. Harry retired from Janus Developmental Service in 1995. He was ordained into the ministry in 2000. He and Joan now do prison ministry. Their children are Dr. Michael Brewster Wray, of Kent, Washington, and Rick L. Wray, of Quilcene, Washington.
